Nvidia's ACE for Games: Blurring the Lines Between Reality and Virtual Worlds

07 Aug 2024

Nvidia has announced the launch of ACE for Games, a version of its Omniverse Avatar Cloud Engine, which allows game NPCs to be animated and given a voice in real-time. The ACE for Games platform integrates text-to-speech, natural language understanding, and facial animation, which enables game characters to interact with players in a previously unthinkable way.

Blurring the lines between reality and virtual worlds

The collaboration between Nvidia and Convai resulted in a demo that blurs the lines between reality and virtual worlds, offering gamers the chance to interact with AI in a more realistic way. The demo, crafted in Unreal Engine 5, is set in a cyberpunk setting and shows a player walking into a ramen shop and talking to the owner. The owner has no scripted dialogue but responds to the player's questions in real-time.

While the technology is still in its early stages, the ACE for Games demo appears to be more polished and properly real-time. However, it is unclear what it takes to run the demo, and it could require more than an average GeForce GPU to run right now or require a cloud-based component.

Polished and real-time performance of ACE for Games:

Nvidia's ACE for Games is a significant step forward in the gaming industry, and it will be exciting to see how game developers use this technology to create more immersive and interactive gaming experiences.
